Being a Better Communicator # 2
Own the moment.
It is real. It bites. It happens regularly. It numbs. It makes you shake, forgetful, and scared. What is it? STAGE FRIEGHT. Stage freight is something that every public speaker has had to deal with and work through at one point or another. One of the best ways to overcome stage freight is to Own the Moment. Realizing that I only have ONE shot to impact the people I am addressing has given me a drive to be my very best. How do I “own the moment?”
1. I have to own the message.
2. I must make EYE CONTACT with the audience.
3. Be prayed up, not catching up.

Being a Better Communicator # 1
Own the message.
Speaking twice a week for nearly three years as the lead pastor I have found that it is easy to speak a message from my notes and not my heart. To be a more effective communicator I believe that one must fully own the message that he/she is speaking. I encourage you to memorize your message and deliver it from your heart and not from a sheet of paper or a prompter. I am not saying that one shouldn’t use notes, as I regularly do, however, one should be familiar enough with the substance of the message that your eyes aren’t glued to those notes. I use notes for reference points only. Learning this has given me a better, conversational style delivery, which better connects me to the audience and makes my talks much more interesting.

I had to share this...
Taken from Perry Noble dot com!
One of the lessons I’ve learned while being in the ministry for the past 17 years is sometimes what people say isn’t exactly true…things such as…
(WARNING…you will probably only like this post if you are a pastor or a staff member of a church!)
What They Say: “I’m looking for a church that preaches the Word!”
What They Mean: “I’m looking for a church that preaches MY view of the Word. I think the BLANK translation should be used…I think BLANK should be talked about a lot while BLANK should be ignored. And if you ever stop preaching my view of the Word I will leave and tell others that you don’t preach the Word!”
What They Say: “Lot’s of people have been coming to me and saying they don’t like is…”
What They Mean: “I basically only have three friends…and all of them think exactly like me. The other night we were enjoying a time of self righteousness because, after all, we are right about everything…and were also slandering you (in the form of prayer requests) and thought it would be wise to approach you with our pet peeve. We’ve actually talked to no one else about this but said “lots” because we wanted to validate our dysfunction.”
What They Say: “I’m leaving the church.”
What They Mean: “Beg me to stay. If you will just ask me I will share with you several ways you can compromise God’s vision that He’s given you, thus becoming nothing more than a people pleasing pastor who is more interested in popularity than obedience. If you don’t bow to my demands I will remind you that I tithe and that the church needs my money, reducing you to a mere preaching whore…one who is paid for a service for the pleasure of another person.”
What They Say: “I want a church that is more focused on discipleship.”
What They Mean: “I want a church where everyone knows me and how important I am! I don’t want to reach people who are different from me, be it economic class or race or even musical preference. I already know WAY more than I do…but I somehow equate spirituality with knowledge rather than application and I rather enjoy feeling intellectually superior to those who don’t know as much as me.”
What They Say: “Don’t take this personally…but…”
What They Mean: “I am about to lower the BOOM on you…but you can’t get angry because I told you not to take it personally. Even though you have dedicated your life to this and pretty much invest every ounce of energy you have to this cause…and I think about it once or twice a week…you need to receive my attacks, even when they are personal…and you cannot retaliate because, remember, it’s not personal.”
OKAY, that was fun! I typed it all with a smile. Trust me…I’m not mad or frustrated with anyone…I just thought a pastor or two MIGHT get a smile out of this. :-)
Update from Elijah...
Hey brotha man.
I hope all is rockn in your world. I wanted to take a moment to let you know what the latest and greatest is in our ministry. I can't tell you how much it much your partnership does to help us grow the kingdom.
Here's the scoop:
SEPTEMBER:
* 1,287 Salvations!
* Met with the casting department of a show called L.A. INK in Hollywood. They are interested in highlighting my ministry on one of their episodes. Haven't heard a final answer yet, but the great part is that while I was there they asked me to tell them "my story"...of coarse what that turned into was me sharing the gospel in a way they never saw coming. I believe it really hit home with a few of those jokers....and even better, they were filming it to show the network for screen testing. that means that another department of TLC is required to sit there and watch me preach to them! HA!
* I sent a myspace bulliten out asking the general public to help me gather new shoes for orphans around the world (This is a project i heard about thru Lifechurch. tv in OKC and decided that our ministry can help that cause. The response has been very good. I believe we will hit our goal of 500 new pairs of shoes for these kids.
* As always, the press for our L.A. ministry launch is in full swing. We anticipate starting gatherings in the Hollywood area in January.
As it stands now, our plan is to physically move the Tindall clan to CA in late May once the kiddos are out of school. I will continue to travel to L.A. once a month with the purpose of meeting with local pastors in the area (so we have a knowledge of where to funnel the new converts once we getem saved. Also to target the favored spot God has arranged for us to both live and minister.
Im asking partners to be praying for us in these areas:
1. Favor in housing
2. Favor in the right ministry location for this stage of the launch.
3. Quality video equiptment. We plan on producing a reality type show in which cameras follow me speaking in churches, comedy venues and clubs around the nation. We will use this to attract a media community and share the Gospel in a unique way.
Once again....THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH FOR HELPING!

Verse for the Day...
"And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-- among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you have been saved-- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

Great Relationships
I am blessed beyond measure to have amazing relationships with ministry-friends, our church leaders, and my church staff and family too. Simply stated, "Relationships Matter," and we should never take one for granted.
