You know the bible warns of false prophets and I believe that the prosperity gospel is just that. Joel Osteen is just the kinda guy that we should be cautious of, he hardly uses any scripture and it is always positive, never any talk about hell or eternal damnation. How can people truly know God with this type of message?
Last year By the grace of God I lived though most of my worst fears. Trials are temporary. In the words of my Dad, Keep your faith in Jesus, suck it up and drive on. By the way when Jesus was here His life wasn't easy. Why should we expect our lives to be?
Yes, I agree about Joel Osteen. I need someone to tell me I am uncapable without clinging to the Cross for my every breath... Joel reminds me of Oprah. She is so nice and pleasant to listen to, makes you feel good. John Piper talks about how false prophets are so subtle.. We absolutely have to ask God for discernment if we are feeling down in our circumstances, we want to hear that we "can improve our life, live our best life... etc. Well, what we really need to do is fall on our faces before Holy God and keep seeking him with all of our hearts, dig into the Word, keep seeking Him! Then, we will have that peace that passes all understanding, maybe we'll still be sick, maybe our husbands will still be in Iraq for a year, maybe we will still have a disabled child, maybe we still won't have a new car, but we WILL HAVE CHRIST, and what he gives us satisfies like nothing else of this world, it cannot be put into words. Todd Agnew says "Which Jesus do you follow, if Ephesians says to imitate Christ, why do you look so much like this world... My Jesus bled and died, he spent his time with theives and the least of these, he'd probably prefer Beale Street to the stained glass crowd. .. I wanna be like my Jesus.
